Does Your Water Taste Bad After You Have Installed a Water Filter?

Now that you have bought a filter for your home or office and hoping that your drinking water problems are over.  Then, you started to notice that your water taste funny, again! The filter worked for a while but something begins to happen to the way your drinking and shower water feel. So, what happened if you are still having problems with your water?

Could it be a wrong filter type? If your problem is taste and odor, you should buy a filter that is certified to remove taste and odor. If a filter is certified to reduce chlorine and bacteria and you purchased an iron or lead filter, your water problem may not be resolved. Basically, you should buy a right water filter for the right job.

INSTALLING A WATER SOFTENER

Could it be your filter cartridge may be clogged? Filter media pores are designed to allow certain amount of flows or a projected number of days or months.  When the pores are used up or clogged with contaminants, filter cartridges will no longer filter effectively. Instead, the dirty water and some of the contaminants that adhere to the surface of the filter media may wash into your water, making it unhealthier.

Could it be a wrong replacement filter cartridge? Perhaps you just replaced the filter cartridge and the water does not taste the same as when you bought the filter.  Filter cartridges may look similar and if you are trying to cut cost and you buy a filter designed for different brand or model, you may be in for a surprise. The slightest difference in pore size could affect the way your water is filtered.

The solution?. . .

Test your water before you buy a water filter.  Find out what's in it before you decide the type of filtration device that fits your need.  You can buy one of these easy-to-use home testing kits that will let you know how bad your water is.  You will then be well informed as to the type of water filter that is best for your home. Replace your filter cartridge as often as recommended by the manufacturer.  Trying to squeeze the last drop out of the filter may not be a good idea. Enjoy your water filter device to the fullest not at the expense of contaminated filtered water. Buy the replacement filter model the manufacturer recommends. When you first bought the system, you probably received a manual that gives you a list of replacement units and their model numbers.

Most importantly, you should look for a water filter system that has been independently tested and certified by a third-party organization like the NSF International.  NSF routinely test treatment devices to ensure that they can reduce contaminants that are or of concern to you and your family.

Improving Your Doctors Office With A Water Fountain

One of the many issues that Doctors and Dentists face is that a great amount of their patients have a fear of coming to their appointments. Though Doctors and Dentists are there to help them in feeling better and more healthy patients fear of being diagnosed with a disease, having painful work done, getting a shot and so forth. This can at times make it extremely difficult for Doctors and Dentists a like to perform the important work at hand. There is a remedy for this great dilemma though. It has been proven by researchers that the soothing sounds of a water feature can help to calm and relax many people. Though installing a water feature in a Doctors or Dentists office might not completely eliminate the fear that countless patients feel as they enter an office it can help a fair amount to feel more calm as they wait to be treated.

One of the many health benefits of having a water feature in a Doctors or Dentists office is that it lowers blood pressure, calms the nerves, and hides frightening sounds like a drill that could cause the patient to become uneasy. By having a water feature in an office it will help to make frightened patients so much easier to treat. It is those patients that are tense and on edge that are harder to diagnosis and treat. But if a patient were to enter an office an hear the soothing sounds of a water feature it might help them to relax and allow them to let the fear they feel slip away. This way a Doctor or a Dentist is able to perform their great task of helping those in need.

A WATER

Another health benefit that comes from having a water feature in an office is that water fountains act as natural humidifiers. How a fountain works to purify they air is through the constant moving water particles that enter the air. It is scientifically proven that when the water particles enter the air it helps to break down harmful particles of dust and dirt that can cause those patients with respiratory issues to become distressed. Water features also help to add humidity to the air. This is great for climates that suffer from the negative effects of dry air.

Installing a wall fountain into your Doctors or Dentist office is a necessity. It is the responsibility of all health care providers to make their patients feel comfortable and safe and a water feature can help to do this. Floor Fountains can also help to clean the air. It is so vital that every office is a cleanly place so that disease does not spread. Not only does it benefit the patients though it will make the Doctors and Dentists job so much easier because they get to treat patients that are more relaxed and not overcome with fear.

Which Water Purification Systems Are Best? - A Comparison of the Three Most Common Technologies

Fresh water is essential to our health and comfort. Not only do we rely on it to stay hydrated, we use it in many other ways including bathing, cleaning and cooking food, and laundering our clothes. Fresh water has long been a concern of both public communities and private individuals, and several different water purification systems and treatment technologies have been developed to help ensure that tap water is safe for human consumption. But how do these different technologies compare?

Whether you get your water from a well or a city system, water sources can become contaminated by bacteria, runoff, and improper treatment. Even if water isn't contaminated, it may contain iron and other hard minerals that cause discoloration and can build up in the body, or chlorine that leaves an unpleasant odor and taste. Consequently, many people choose to treat or filter their water to improve flavor and protect against contaminants.

A WATER

Chlorine is commonly used by municipal water treatment plants and is effective in killing many different bacteria. However, it is not effective against some organisms such as Cryposporidium and Giardia. Both of these organisms can be found in lakes, rivers, and ground water and can cause serious intestinal illness.

As mentioned, many people feel that chlorine leaves an unpleasant taste and smell. In addition, there have been numerous cases where the city water supply became contaminated despite the fact that it was treated. People with city water supplies often use other water purifiers and home water filters to ensure that their water is pure and tastes good. The three most common options are carbon filters, reverse osmosis water filters, and ultraviolet light water purification.

Each of these technologies uses a different approach to treat water, and they each have different levels of effectiveness against various contaminants. One may work well to remove chemicals but be completely ineffective against bacteria, and vice versa.

In reality, there is no single filter or treatment that will eliminate every contaminant from your water. The best approach is to have your water tested for contaminants and then purchase a home water purifier that guards against the particular contaminants that cause you concern.

Another option is to combine treatment technologies. Most higher-end systems use a combination of carbon filters and one of the other treatment technologies to achieve the best results. Let's look at the different technologies to see where each is effective.

Carbon Filters

Carbon is one of the most powerful absorbents available and it has been used for many years as a means of removing impurities. The absorbing powers of carbon can be further enhanced by adding a slightly positive electrical charge. This is known as activated carbon, and it is used in many standard home water filters. As the water passes over the positively charged carbon, the negative ions of the contaminants are drawn to the surface of the carbon granules and removed from the water.

Activated carbon filters typically use granular activated carbon (GAC) or powdered block carbon. Both work well for filtering and purifying but carbon block filters have been shown to remove more contaminants. Either type of activated carbon filters help reduce or remove a wide variety of contaminants, including:

o volatile organic chemicals (VOCs)
o pesticides and herbicides
o chlorine, radon, and other chemicals often found in tap water.

All of this protection comes in a relatively inexpensive package. You can purchase carbon filter systems that fit on your faucet for about , or you can choose a whole house water purification system that utilizes carbon filter technology for around 0.

However, unless they are densely compacted, most carbon block filters are not effective at removing heavy metals or bacteria. For this reason, many people consider combining carbon filters with one of the other types of water purification systems.

Reverse Osmosis Water Filters

Reverse osmosis, also known as hyperfiltration or ultra-filtration, was developed with U.S. government funding as a means of desalinating ocean water. A reverse osmosis water purifier uses a semi-permeable membrane that allows pure water to pass through it, while contaminants are trapped by the tiny pores in the membrane.

The process requires that the water be pressurized to help force it through the membrane. Most standard residential water systems have sufficient pressure. Like activated carbon filters, reverse osmosis also uses charged particles to help filter out impurities.

The effectiveness of a reverse osmosis water purifier depends on the density of the membrane. A membrane with larger pores will obviously let larger impurities pass through. It is also important that the membrane be cleaned regularly for proper functioning.

Higher quality reverse osmosis water filters use a process known as crossflow to allow the membrane to continually clean itself. Crossflow directs some of the water downstream from the membrane, sweeping the rejected contaminants away so they do not build up and block the membrane.

There are two types of membranes commonly used in reverse osmosis water filters --Thin Film Composite (TFC) and Cellulose Triacetate (CTA). TFC membranes are noticeably more effective the CTA membranes but they tend to be less resistant to the deteriorating effects of chlorine. This problem can be avoided by using an activated carbon pre-filter to remove the chlorine first.
Reverse osmosis water purifiers come in different sizes and styles including countertop and whole house water purification systems. They are capable of filtering out a long list of contaminants including:

o chlorine and other treatment related products
o bacteria
o salts, sugars, proteins
o dyes
o heavy metals

One drawback of reverse osmosis water filters is that they are more expensive than carbon filter treatment systems, with the average home system costing around 0. Also, the purification process is usually somewhat slow due to the use of pressurized water. It can take an entire day to produce 15 gallons of purified water. And a typical reverse osmosis water purifier may need up to 8 gallons of untreated water to generate a single gallon of purified water.

UV Water Purification

As the name implies, ultraviolet light water purification systems use ultraviolet (UV) light to treat water and render microorganisms harmless. The UV light comes from a high intensity lamp that is usually enclosed in a protective quartz sleeve. When water passes through the water treatment system, the UV light damages the structure of any organisms and makes them sterile.

Although a UV water purifier requires electricity to operate, it draws about the same amount of energy as a light bulb. However, the lamp bulb itself needs to be replaced every year to ensure adequate intensity.

While whole house UV water purification systems are effective on most bacteria, viruses, molds, algae and other organisms, they do not remove chlorine, heavy metals, VOCs, or other chemicals. And countertop UV systems, which expose the water to UV lighting for less time, do not always remove all organisms.

UV water purifiers average around 0 for a whole house system, making them more expensive initially than other types of treatments. In addition, without a pre-filter system, contaminants can build up and reduce the intensity of the UV lamp. For these reasons, many people combine UV water purification systems with carbon filters, which also increases the costs.

As you can see, each of the three common water treatment technologies has its advantages and drawbacks. Deciding which is best depends on your budget and the type of water contaminants you want to remove or prevent. A test of your tap water will help you determine the appropriate water filtration system for your needs.

Hard Water Problems

If you live in Tampa you have probably heard about hard water. The Tampa water softener market is one of the busiest in the country. You can't go for very long without seeing or hearing an advertisement for a softener.

So, why is everybody making such a big deal out of hard water. Is it just a bunch of sales hype? Why are Tampa softener companies pushing so hard to get your business?

INSTALLING A WATER SOFTENER

To answer that question you need to know a little about water hardness. This page will help you learn to separate the truth from the hype and allow you to make an informed decision about a water softener.

Water is considered hard when it contains dissolved minerals, primarily calcium and magnesium. The more minerals it contains, the harder it is. Since these minerals are dissolved, you probably can't see them. "Hard" water doesn't really look or taste any different any different, but that doesn't mean it isn't a problem.

Excessive water hardness can cause several problems in your home. These problems are the reason Tampa water softener sales are so high. The truth is hard water can and does affect families in many ways.

Probably the most easily recognizable problems is it's effect on soaps and detergents. Hard water makes it difficult to create a lather when using soaps and it can significantly reduce the effectiveness of detergents and other cleaning products.

Another very visible effect is the spotting left behind on glassware and dishes. This is due to the minerals in the water being left behind as it evaporates. On your dishes this is just an inconvenience. But the same process can have a much more damaging effect on your plumbing system.

Hard water has several negative consequences for your plumbing system, especially your hot water system. The minerals can cause a build up of scale inside your pipes. This can substantially reduce the flow rate to your home and eventually require an expensive repair.

Your water heater is also at risk from hard water. Scale can build up on heating elements and significantly reduce the efficiency and effectiveness of an electric water heater. Gas models aren't immune either, minerals and scale can have the same negative effects on them.

The bottom line is hard water can create a lot of problems in your home. Some of them are easily visible and some take place "behind the scenes". Even if you are willing to live with the annoyance of the problems you can see, the ones you don't see could wind up costing you a lot of money if not corrected.

Why Does Water Taste Bad? A Simple Solution to Why Water Tastes Bad

Why does water taste bad?  It could be because there's something in it that's making it taste bad, or it could be that it's missing something too...

Why Does Water Taste Bad?

A WATER

The most common reason why water tastes bad is because it contains microscopic particles in it that give it both a bad taste and odor.  The only time you can really see these particles is when you first pour a glass of it.  If it's a bit cloudy, then these particles are what's causing it.

The other reason why water tastes bad is because it may be lacking all the natural trace minerals that most water contains.  Distilled water or water produced by reverse osmosis systems are stripped of their natural trace minerals, which is why many people that use these systems describe their water as "flat".

When most people ask why does water taste bad, they often think that they need to add something to it to make it taste better.  Some people add water tablets that neutralize the taste, and other add kool-aid or other sugar just to hide it!

But the problem with this method is that all those particles that are making the water taste bad are still in what you're drinking!

The best way to eliminate the bad taste in water is to install a simple water filtration system in your home.  A quality system will not only remove all of these bad taste and odor particles, it's also remove most of the chlorine, lead, herbicides and pesticides, synthetic chemicals, cysts, solvents, chlorinated byproducts, and other harmful contaminants.

Just make sure that the filtration system you get does not strip away all the natural minerals found in water, because then you'll be right back where you started!

A filtration system does not have to be expensive either.  The one that my family and I use in our home filters out 99% of most harmful contaminants and only cost us 0.  Then every 6 months, a replacement filter only costs .  So for just pennies a day, we are able to have an unlimited amount of pure, healthy drinking water at our disposal.  Oh yeah, and it tastes great, too!

Why Does Water Taste Bad? A Simple Solution to Why Water Tastes Bad

A WATER

Softening Hard Water

The hardness of water is a measure of the minerals, usually calcium and magnesium, dissolved in the water. These minerals exist as positively charged ions, or cations. Water picks up these cations from rocks and sediment as it travels through the ground. Water hardness fluctuates by location, because of the different types of rock and sediment that contain a varying amount of minerals.

Hard water causes tough-to-remove scummy film on bathtubs and shower doors. This film occurs because cleaning agents to not fully dissolve in hard water, and the undissolved cleansers stick to any surface they come in contact with. This residue is also the reason clothes washed in hard water feel stiff, and your hair will seem dull after washing. The calcium and magnesium then build up in pipes, washing machines, dishwashers and other appliances. This build up results in clogged pipes, reduced flow and shortened life-span of appliances.

INSTALLING A WATER SOFTENER

The cations in the water balanced by anions, or negatively charged ions. These anions determine whether the hardness is permanent or temporary. Water containing carbonate and bicarbonate anions is temporarily hard, and therefore easier to treat. Temporary hardness can be removed by boiling, which causes the carbonate ions to react with the cations. This reaction forms insoluble carbonates that precipitate out, softening the water.

Water that is permanently hard contains chloride or sulfate anions, which do not react with the cations during boiling. Just because the water is classified as permanently hard does not mean that it can't be softened. The water can be softened by an ion exchange system.

An ion exchange system treats water that has a significant amount of hardness. If a sample has two or more grains per gallon of hardness, a water softener is recommended. A water softener is also recommended if the water supply has a large amount of iron because it will effectively aid an Iron Removal System in filtering out all of the iron. Softening systems are also effective for removing manganese.

The ion exchange water softening method is a two-tank system designed to reduce the grains per gallon of hardness in your water. One tank completes the treatment, while the other tank - a brine tank - houses salt. Salt is required to regenerate the main tank's media to complete the actual treatment. There is a metered control valve at the top of the treatment tank with tubing that connects the two tanks.

Water that has been treated with a softening system is preferable for cleaning. Because cleaning agents dissolve better in soft water, there is no sticky residue left behind on tubs, clothes or hair. Soft water does not result in scale build-up in pipes, washing machines and other appliances. No build up means better pressure and longer appliance life.
Determining the level of water hardness and knowing the differences between hard and soft water is important to deciding if treatment is necessary.

Starting a Water Detox Program

Today, more people are becoming more conscious about the hazardous effects of the chemicals they directly or indirectly take into their bodies. They realize that cancer rates are growing higher and their waistlines are expanding wider. More people are finding out that fast food, alcohol and massive nutrition and diet fads have serious and often fatal consequences. Enter the promise of detoxification.

While many still see detoxification as something new age and "hippie", a lot more people have discovered how detoxification has worked wonders in their lives, from curing diseases to improving their moods.

A WATER

A popular way to detox your body is to indulge in a water fast. For most people, a water fast as one of the most difficult things they have embarked on in their lives, yet also the most rewarding. To prepare for a mental fast, you must predict the kind of activities you will be entering in the next few days. Some may fast for as long as three days just to get the feel of how it is. Some people may find a water fast difficult and all they want to do is sleep all day. Other people may find that they are more energetic and vibrant on the water fast. Generally, water fasting is something not to be taken lightly - many people can attest to how profound the experience can be. Living on water makes one realize how we can function with very little and survive with only the essentials.

Before the fast, it is also a good idea to prepare your body by drinking juices (only the fresh kind) and soft, raw food. Breaking in your body gently helps you whether the aggressive surfacing of chemicals that water detoxification can bring. If you don't foresee a first see a lot of pressure and stress in the days after that, it is recommended that you continue your water fast until the end of the week.

Consult a doctor or health care practitioner before you go into a water fast. If you are hyperglycemic, diabetic, hypoglycemic, or have psychological or cardiac issues, you may need to go through another form of detoxification. However if you do get a go signal, here's what you can do: avoid using water straight from the faucet. This kind of water contains a large number of heavy metals, mineral salts, harmful trace elements and some pollutants. Rather, it is recommended that you drink distilled water. Mineral water still has inorganic materials that inadvertently intensifies and triggers the effects of losing chemicals in the body. Be prepared to accompany your water fast with your preferred method of meditation and prayer so you can focus your energies elsewhere as your body lives on impure toxins and fats released during the detoxification process. If it is your first time to fast, it is recommended that alternate jury case of drinking water and fruit juice to ease the impact.

As the fast progresses, you may notice some dizziness, but this is normal because the heart rests itself during a fast. Make sure that you stand up or sit down slowly; this will relieve much of the dizziness. During detoxification, the waste level in our blood goes up, so some people may experience fever and headaches. These will not last long and are soon gone as the water passes through our system.

If you feel that detoxification is too much of a commitment, just make sure that you drink at least 2 liters of clean water every day. Drinking this much (and not a lot of people do) will greatly aid our body in moving nutrients around, cooling us off and removing stored waste and bacteria.

Why Choose a Water Flosser for Your Home Dental Care?

It's important to care for your teeth and gums every day. Brushing and flossing are great, but if you really want to do the best you can for your teeth, you need to consider buying a water flosser too. It's a big step up in caring for your mouth.

A water flosser works by shooting out water which you can aim at your teeth and gums. This allows you to clean along your gums more thoroughly than you can manage with traditional brushing and flossing. It also stimulates your gums, which may also help them to be more healthy.

A WATER

Be careful in using a water flosser the first time. They are often quite powerful, and you do not want them on the highest setting. Start a little lower and get used to the sensation, then build up to the setting you find most comfortable and effective.

With any water flosser, you should be prepared to deal with the fact that you're spraying water into your mouth. Lean over the sink and just let it flow back out, or close your lips over the flosser as you work, spitting out excess water as you go. If you aren't careful, water flossing can be a messy procedure.

If you're having issues with your gums, a water flosser can be a great investment. While there's no guarantee that it will save you money at the dentist's office, many online reviewers have reported significant improvements in gum health. I've always found it to be more fun than flossing with traditional dental floss as well, despite the mess.

You won't get any benefit, of course, if you don't use it consistently. That's true of any part of your dental care routine. Just once a day is enough to help keep your gums cleaner and healthier, yet it doesn't take all that long.

You may be able to add mouthwash or other products to the water of your water flosser, but read the instructions before you do so. There may be benefits to your mouth, but not all flossers cope well with anything other than water going through them.

The one disadvantage people notice with just about any water flosser is that they're a bit noisy. They're small, but they're pumping water through a small hose, and that's not a quiet process. You will want to use your water flosser at times when you won't disturb those sleeping nearby.

How to Replace a Water Filter Cartridge

How to replace a water filter cartridge on your home water filtering system. This article covers how to change both filters on a Aquasana AQ4000 filter system.

Some of this information may be helpful with any brand of filter system. Unpack the replacement filter kit and check the contents. You should have 2 replacement water filter cartridges, A and a B. Two replacement O-rings. If the O-rings are not flat lay them out and see if they will flatten out on their own this may take over night. If this does not work, put a book on them over night. The reason is if the O-rings are bowed from shipping makes then harder to make a good seal.

A WATER

The first step is to lay your home water filtering system on its side. You can see on the filter caps are labeled A and B. Also arrows that indicate which way to turn to loosen each cap. Turn filter cap A to the right to unscrew or the direction the arrow points. Filter cap B should unscrew to the left or the direction of the arrow. They should only be hand tight. If they are too tight to remove by hand use the handles of a pliers to give you a little extra leverage. Be careful not to do any damage to the inlet or outlet water lines.

Water filter cartridge A will be the most difficult to remove. The seal on the top of the filter holds the cartridge in place. There is not enough room in the filter housing to get a hold of it. I find it easy to use a pair of pliers to get a hold of the filter and twist and pull to it out. Water filter cartridge B will be attached to the filter cap. Simply twist and pull the two apart. I lay the filters at each side of the filter housing. This helps to keep track of which filter is A and B. Remove both o-rings make sure the grove where they sit in is clean. Now install the two new O-rings. Put a small amount of food grade silicone based lubricant on the exposed area of each O- ring. This helps when installing the filter caps. The oil lets the caps slide easy on the rubber, which will make them seal easier. Installing them dry may let them kink and dislodge resulting in a leak.

Replacement water filter cartridge A is the white one. Install it in the A cartridge housing with the O-ring end in first. Putting some water on the rubber seal makes it slide in easier. Give it a push and turn until it is seated. The B replacement cartridge is the blue one. Install the O-ring end into the filter cap. In the same manner as the other filter. At this point, I check the O-ring to make sure they are still in place. Then go ahead and install the B filter into the B housing. Screw the B cap until it is firmly seated. Now check the other seal and install the A cap until it is firmly seated.

Keep the filter system on its side, turn on the water and activate the diverter valve. Check around the cap threads for any signs of water. If there is a little leak, try tightening the cap a little more. If this does not seal the leak, then open up that cap and check the O-ring it may have came out of its seat. Check to make sure it is not cut or damaged. If it is, the old O-ring might reseal. The other option is take one of the old seals to your local hardware store and match it up. The other step if none of these ideas work is to order a replacement seal. Now you can be reinstalled the cap as described above and check for any leaks.

If you do not see, any leaks set the AQ-4000 up right and leave the water run for about 2-3 minutes until the water runs clear. The water at first may come out cloudy or even have a black color, this is normal. Carbon dust is being cleaned out of the new filter cartridges. I save the water that used to flush out the filter system. Houseplants like the water, or put it on plants out side. To keep track of when it will be time to reinstall your next set of water filters. Write the next replacement date on a piece of tape and put it on the filter. This helps to keep track of time. They should be replaced every 6 months or 500 gallons on your home water filtering system.

Water Conservation Tips - 5 Ways To Conserve Water

Did you know that by conserving your water use, you can not only help the environment, but save yourself up to a hundred dollars every year? Times are tough, and that money could be used for so many other things than financing mop water and leaky toilets. Here are five ways to cut down on your household's daily use of water and hopefully save you a few bucks!

1: Cut down on extraneous water flow. It is advised that you should take baths instead of showers or at least limit your time under the spray. Don't leave the faucet running while you're brushing your teeth or washing the dishes - instead, fill one sink with soapy water and the other with rinse water.

A WATER

2: Check your home and garden for leaks. Even a small leak can have a cumulative effect and cost you big in the long run. Check your faucets, sprinklers, and water meter readings, and test your toilet by putting a little food coloring in the tank - if the color drains down into the bowl, you may need to replace some toilet parts.

3: Conserve water. Rinse your razor in a small cup, and limit yourself to one bucket for mop water. Only run your washers and dryers when you have a full load. Don't use your toilet as an ashtray - you waste up to seven gallons of water every time you flush a cigarette or used tissue! Use a trash bag instead.

4: Re-use water whenever sanity. For example, after rinsing off your vegetables, save that water and use it on your plants. Park uphill when you wash your car - the water will run down your driveway and save you from having to hose it down later.

5: Keep a jug of cool clean water in the fridge at all times. If you want a drink, you won't have to waste water waiting for the tap to cool; you can also use it for washing, cleaning, and anything else around the kitchen without having to touch the sink.

These are just a few tips to get you started. Once you dedicate yourself to saving water (and money!) you'll see the opportunities everywhere. Don't be afraid to get your whole family in on it, too - if you can impress your kids with good habits early, they'll grow up conversing water as second nature. Isn't that the greatest gift?

What is the Difference Between a Water Bowser and a Water Tank?

When is a water tank not a water tank? When it is in fact a water bowser, what is the difference then? A water bowser is a far rarer term than a water tank. A water tank is commonly used to describe a static water container which may contain either potable or non potable water.

Water tanks may be located either above or underground and are particularly useful for rainwater harvesting. Rainwater harvesting is a term used to describe catching, storing and using rainwater. In an age where we are trying to conserve water, rainwater harvesting is a good ecological alternative, especially for usages such as watering gardens or washing cars.

A WATER

The term water bower on the other hand is used to describe a mobile water supply. These are particularly useful for deploying potable water in emergency situations, for example when there is a breakdown in mains freshwater supply.

Interestingly the etymology of bowser is that it originated in 1921 as a trade name of SF Bowser Inc., the company of Sylvanus Bowser, the US inventor of the first fuel pump. It is a popular term in Australia and New Zealand where it refers to a 'fuel oil pump'

Water bowsers are particularly useful in situations where there is no availability of mains water, for example when water needs to be moved around a farm or golf course or even for a festival.

They are commonly manufactured from tough plastic with a low centre of gravity to ensure stability. There are a surprising number of additional design considerations such as aerodynamic design and easy access for cleaning. Bowsers that need to be transported by road must be highway legal and have a suitable chassis. Further considerations include capacity of the bowser and whether or not a pump is required.

So when considering purchasing water storage, you need to question your requirements. Do you need your water supply to be mobile? In which case you need to research water bowsers. Alternatively are you looking to collect rainwater? If so you'll need a non-potable water tank. On the other hand, if you're looking to store water for human consumption, you need to look for a potable water tank.

A final question is 'What capacity of tank or bowser'? Remember to consider not only the amount of water you need, but also the storage space you have available.

Alkaline Water Ionizers - A Great Source of Alkaline Water

Alkaline water machines and water ionizers have brought about one of the biggest trends in the health and wellness industry. Drinking alkaline water and balancing your body's "ecosystem" to be less acidic and more basic has turned into a real movement in this industry. This incredible health craze has also brought about a bit of controversy from folks in the community that claim it is simply a scam. So what is alkaline water exactly and how does an alkaline water machine actually create it?

Making Super Water

A WATER

Alkaline water ionizers are basically a type of countertop water filter that induces an extra process while filtering tap water. The key process that takes place is that an electrical charge is induced as the H2O is filtered. This process of electrolysis has a bio-electric and structural altering effect on the water molecules.

This electrical charge is created by two electrodes as the water passes through them. They both positively and negatively charge the H2O, making it both more acidic and more alkaline respectively. The water is separated in the process as there are uses for the acidic qualities also. But the healthy water that is to be ingested is the low pH high alkalinity water. This water now has an unbalanced negative charge that is manifested in what are called the Hydroxyl ions. These are considered to be the antioxidant agents of the new and improved tap water.

New Water Molecule Structure

Water is a very special entity with amazing power. It has different properties when frozen, as well as when it is in vapor state. It plays an integral part in the world's weather systems, and it can bring about incredible destruction. At the same time, all life on earth needs it for survival, as all life is composed of it to some degree. It's no wonder that on a molecular level it is also very special.

Scientists about 15 years ago determined that water molecules exist in what are called molecular clusters with a specific molecular weight. This cluster is made up of 13 to 15 molecules approximately. This structure pattern could only be perceived by a nuclear magnetic resonance device. But when the water is electrically charge, the clusters become smaller; about 6 molecules. The smaller cluster gives this improved H2O the ability to more deeply penetrate tissues and flush out toxins. This quality also makes the water about 6 times more hydrating than regular tap water.

The Never Ending Antioxidant

The newly improved molecule in its tiny little 6-man cluster now also has antioxidant abilities. Negatively charged water molecules (hydroxyl ions) are now free radical scavengers. They can neutralize free radicals before they can damage the cells' nucleus all over the body. The best part about it is that there is no limit to how much alkaline ionized water you can drink.

In conclusion, the skeptics are always in full force, so there will be people out there who will try to discredit the validity of these machines and the elixir they make in terms of its health improvement effectiveness. Eventually, time will tell, and ultimately you would have to do your own due diligence.

Drilling a Million Water Wells For Africa's Water Shortage

Experts are saying that Africa as a country will need to drill up to a million boreholes to supply them with enough safe and clean drinking water over the next ten years. Estimates for Ethiopia by itself has been said to need 80,000 boreholes for water wells.

This amount of well drilling will supply the country with safe clean drinking water. Just for Ethiopia alone an investment of a billion dollars is said to have to be raised to pay for this over the next decade.

A WATER

It's a sad fact that 6000 African's die each day through drinking dirty unsafe water. The African people have to walk miles and miles to fetch this water in cans or plastic containers, this water if often unclean and not fit for human consumption, but often there are no alternatives.

The average person in this country probably needs to drink about 2 liters per day to maintain life but In Africa the people will need to drink more because of the extreme temperatures.

In the United Kingdom we have little appreciation for our water supply. Just think about how much water is wasted everyday in our daily routine, for example we can use 8 liters per flush of our toilet system although new w/c's are only permitted to flush 6 liters and when code 4 building regs comes into to place this will then be reduced to 4 liters, leaving the tap running whilst brushing our teeth can use up to 10 liters of wasted water if you clean your teeth properly i.e. brushing for up to two minutes.

The Environment Agency has stated that as an individual every person in the United Kingdom uses an average of 140 liters per day wow! When was the last time you went to the tap and started trying to consume this amount, the most I can drink is about two liters of water a day and that is in tea.

What's left from what the average individual in the UK drinks is 138 liters, this is probably used up with toilet flushing; cleaning teeth, car washing, leaking taps, broken mains, etc. This list could be endless.

Imagine if you could save half of this wasted water per day and ship it to Africa in a container ship, this would amount to around 70 liters per person per day and would go a long way to combat Africa's water shortage.

Another way to help this problem would be to donate say £1 per person per year, just from the Untitled Kingdom alone this will be a figure of £60 Million per year and go along way with supplying Africa with drilling rigs to drill their boreholes and also supply them with the necessary training to be able to drill a water well successfully.

We are just average people, living in our own little world in an affluent society carrying out our busy daily routines. When we get 5 minutes to ourselves just sit back and look at how fortunate we are, then compare our lives to the less fortunate and the needy. The ones that have no taps to turn on, the ones that walk miles and miles a day to fetch water.

Remember always, water is a gift of nature; it is just harder for some people to get than others.

How Does Water Treatment Combat Water-Borne Diseases?

Every year millions of people die due to water-borne diseases. Such diseases are caused due to consumption of polluted or contaminated water, which in many parts of the world is contaminated with harmful pathogens, toxic chemicals, and other suspended particulates that make it unfit for drinking. But, then why do people consume such toxins? The answer is simple...often the scarcity of freshwater is the main reason why people tend to drink it from polluted sources.

There are ways of conditioning the water and make it fit for human consumption. A variety of equipment and devices are available for its treatment too. Such devices not just remove suspended solids but, also clean harmful pathogens and microorganisms that are mainly responsible for water-borne diseases.

Process applied for making it drinkable

There are various ways for it. Some of the processes are discussed in brief below:

Pre-chlorination - In this process of conditioning chemicals like chlorine is added. This is mainly done to disinfect, control tastes, aquatic growths, and foul odors. Addition of chlorine aids in coagulation and settling of impurities thereby provides you safe and drinkable water free from disease causing pathogens.

Aeration - It is done to remove dissolved iron and manganese by circulating air through the liquid by using devices like paddle-wheels, venture tube or diffusers. Sometimes, the liquid itself is passed through air for removing such impurities.

Coagulation - In this method various coagulant aids, known as polyelectrolyte are used for water treatment. These substances aids coagulation of the impurities and the waste materials is removed in the form of thick floc formations.

Sedimentation - This method is mainly utilized for the separation of solid sediments. It is a physical water treatment process that works on the principles of gravity. There are various devices available today for this process

Filtration - It is a conventional process of filtering out dirt and sediments. Filters are used for the process. There are different types of filters available in the market today - the one that would suit your requirement is determined by a specialist water treatment service provider only.

Desalination - It is the process of removing salt. There are various devices and chemicals for the process.
Disinfection - There are various chemical disinfectants available in the market today that can be used for killing the pathogens that are the main causes of water-borne diseases in humans and animals.

If you are eager to install or buy any of the conditioning devices or chemicals or need consultation on water treatment, Racine, WI based The Water Store can be the best one to approach. You can trust it for all types of plumbing and water related service needs.

Try a Salt Water Flush Cleanse

As opposed to an enema or colonic that cleanses the colon, a salt water flush cleanses your entire system. Not only are you cleansing your colon by performing a flush, you are also detoxifying your liver and kidneys.

It is important to prepare your body for a salt water flush by fasting the night before. Do not eat anything after 4:00 PM on the evening prior to your planned flush. Ideally, you will perform the flush when you first awake the morning after your fast.

A WATER

It is best to do the flush when you are able to remain close to bathroom facilities all day. A weekend or a day off from work or school is ideal.

The salt water flush recipe presented in this article is simple. All that you need to prepare it can be found right in your own kitchen. All that you will need is some purified water, Himalayan or Celtic sea salt and a sauce pan.

1. Over medium heat, warm a quart of purified water in a sauce pan.

2. Add two teaspoons of Himalayan or Celtic sea salt to the water while it is warming. Gently stir the salt into the water so that it dissolves completely.

3. When all of the salt has dissolved, taste the salted water. If it does not have a slightly salty flavor, add a little more salt.

4. Do not overheat the water. Once it has warmed (but is not hot) pour it into a mug.

5. One glass at a time, drink the water quickly. However, you should not chug the water as this may cause vomiting to occur. In total, drink between 2 and 3 glasses of the salted water.

6. After you have finished the water, gently massage your abdomen to help break up the accumulated waste.

7. Diarrhea should develop between 15 minutes and 2 hours after you consume the water.

The water that you drink will not be absorbed into your intestines. It will pass through your colon and expel through your anus. By performing this salt water flush, many goals will be accomplished. You will not only be cleansing your colon but you will also be helping to detoxify your kidneys and liver.

Salt water flushes can purge out Candida and cleanse your system of any parasites that may be present. It is important to keep in mind that on its own, a salt water flush is not a standalone treatment for these ailments. However, it can be an important aspect of treatment and is highly effective.

Once you have completed the flush, you will need to take a probiotic supplement in order to replenish the good bacteria that was lost during the flush.

A good holistic physician can guide you along the process.

How Does Lime Scale Build Up Inside a Caravan Water Heater?

Most caravan enthusiasts will ensure the caravan gets a regular annual service. When you retrieve the caravan from the garage more often than not we just pay for the service, hitch the caravan up and tow it home. You should however check that the garage has actually completed a full service including the caravan water heater.

As you tour with your caravan you will be using the local water supply of wherever you have chosen to spend the week or a weekend. It is very unlikely whether you will know if the water is hard water or soft water there for you can only assume that your caravan water heater will have a build up of lime scale at some point in his life.

A WATER

So what exactly is lime scale and how does it affect your caravan water heater?

The salts in water mainly calcium and magnesium will precipitate out over time. The rate of precipitation can be increased greatly if you heat the water. Lime scale is most commonly seen on heating elements inside your kettle or iron but if you live in an extremely hard water area you can often see it as white chalky streaks inside the bath wash hand basin.

Why is this of concern to a caravan water heater?

If you have ever had to replace the heating element in see you domestic hot water tank you may have been surprised at the amount of lime scale deposits on the heating element. The main problem with this build up of lime scale is that it reduces the efficiency of the heating element as it takes more energy and effort to heat the water on the other side of the lime scale. The same thing happens inside your caravan water heater if not regularly serviced.

If you add in the habit of using this show inside your caravan instead of at the shower blocks on the campsite or if you regularly wash in hot water then you will be using your caravan water heater to supply this hot water for you. It is a misconception that the water has two actually boil for the specification to happen as it all needs to be warmed for it to begin.

By owning a touring caravan you will no doubt spend many weekends at different campsites and not always in the area that you live. You will be well aware that the water supply in different areas will vary in hardness but once you are less likely to know is just how much lime scale has been deposited in state you caravan water heater. For this reason it is recommended that you at least once a year de-scale this unit to help it work more efficiently when you need it.

Water Fueled Engine

Every few years we come across people who claim to have invented a Water Fueled Car! There are some men who go ahead to make a big buck by sharing their plans for all the money and tell the public that they can save huge amounts by not having to buy gasoline anymore. Of course, like clockwork, eventually the rumor is proved false and the public is disappointed again. The public wants water-fueled cars, but the technology just isn't there yet. Somebody would have to invent a water fuel cell that actually works according to the laws of thermodynamics in order to make the water fueled cars a reality. Though there are scientists working day and night on this, it is yet to be invented. In order to use a water fuel cell in a car, it needs to be deployed according to the perpetual motion machine. This means that the water fuel cell would be able to break down each water molecule into its two major components hydrogen and oxygen. More energy needs to be gained than spent during the process in order to make this happen. The leftover energy is used during the combustion of the accumulated hydrogen.

Theoretically speaking, here is how a water-fuelled engine should be built. Instead of a gasoline tank, a water tank needs to be installed. Two metal plates should be connected to an electrical charge thereby making them work as electrodes. Electrical current is passed through the water tank by the car battery. This separates the water molecules and reform them into two diatomic elemental molecules: H2 and O2. The H2 appears at the negatively charged electrode and the O2 appears at the positively charged electrode. Now the obtained hydrogen ions are combusted to run the car. Using this method, hydrogen can replace gasoline combustion in most automobiles.

A WATER

So far, this theory is still being worked out and tested. However, there is still a question mark to this theory if hydrogen is safe to be used in the engine of the car. Water fueled cars are in demand due to its eco-friendly nature. Unfortunately, this technology has not been released for public consumption.

Install a Charcoal Shower Head Water Filter and Have Healthy Hair Again

Are you struggling with dry unmanageable hair, or dry itchy skin? If so you need to install a charcoal shower head water filter so your water isn't robbing your hair and skin of it's natural essential oils.

But before you purchase a shower filter its important to understand what contaminants a filter should remove. There are many filters on the market with wildly different price tags and different capabilities. And as with most products the price of the product doesn't always equate to the quality of the product.

A WATER

So lets look at what a charcoal shower head water filter needs to remove from your water to get you that nice healthy glow back in your hair.

First off it must remove the chlorine from the water. I don't think anyone will be surprised at the fact chlorine is in every water supply and is incredibly harsh on your hair and skin. Also if you've ever been in a swimming pool you know all about chlorine and you can't wait to take a shower to get that stuff off you when your done swimming.

Any charcoal shower head water filter you buy will filter out this chlorine because charcoal is the active ingredient that is required to remove it. So this one is a no brainer.

The second thing you should look for is a filter that removes THM's. THM's are compounds that result from a reaction between organic materials in drinking water and the chlorine that's added. These thing sound bad for you and they are. You need to get them removed from your water.

Lastly we need to talk about the filter cost. A shower filter can cost anywhere from a low of to a high of 0 but if you do your research you can find a very acceptable unit near the bottom of the range quite easily.

Now it's up to you to do your own research to find a charcoal shower head water filter that will restore your hair to health and relieve your dry skin. Remember to find one that will filter out chlorine and those bad THM's. And lastly don't forget you don't need to spend an arm and a leg to get a great filter.

Why a Water Backpack Helps With Your Exercise Routines

When you are doing exercise, your body needs plenty of fluids. You burn off quite a bit of fats and calories and also sweat while doing your training. It's important to try to replace these fluids else you can become dehydrated and not perform as well as you would have hoped.

One solution for this problem is to wear what's called a water backpack. These can be rather small holding a few liters of water or quite a bit larger holding more. They are good for runners and cyclists especially since you won't have to be using your hands to hold the water like you generally would have to.

A WATER

The first benefit is that you have your water with you when you actually need it. Sip on it during your workout to make sure that you are replacing the fluids that you are sweating out.

There is a secondary benefit to these packs. If you are jogging or running, resistance can help you get stronger. The extra water weight adds resistance that you might need if running has become easier as you have trained harder. The few extra liters of water add a few pounds of weight making the exercise routine a bit more difficult.

Another way that you can use a water backpack is while doing body-weight exercises. Sometimes these start to become easy once you have gained the strength to control your own weight. Adding on the water backpack can add extra pounds of resistance to make the exercises a bit more difficult.

In these backpacks you can use regular water or consider using water with some electrolytes mixed in. This will help replace some of the extra nutrients that are being sweat out. Do what you can to avoid electrolyte mixes that have extra calories or sugars because you don't need these especially while doing calorie burning exercises.

Why Everyone Should Use a Household Water Filter Today

It seems like every time you turn your head, there's another water scare of some sort and with thousands of toxic chemicals in our supplies, a household water filter is fast becoming a necessity. The most crucial part is choosing the right one otherwise you can still be at risk.

There is a vast array of household water filter products to choose from and the majority still leave many dangerous toxins in your water.

A WATER

As we are composed of 70% water ourselves, the quality of what we drink directly impacts on our health and well-being, so the purer the water, the healthier we become.

In the early 1900's, before the prevalence of chlorine, pesticides, herbicides and the thousands of other chemicals that we are exposed to every day, the average American had a 1 in 50 chance of getting cancer, today 1 out of 3 people can expect to get cancer in their lifetime, with 1 out of 2 men falling victim to it.

While reverse osmosis systems are effective for removing chlorine, they still allow many harmful synthetic toxins to pass through their filters like pesticides and herbicides and strip out essential trace minerals instead which we need like calcium and magnesium.

The very best type of household water filter is an activated carbon system. When combined with a multi-stage process and ion exchange they will remove 99% of the harmful toxins and leave those minerals in.

Home water filtration is the easiest, most effective and most economical way to have safe, healthy water for you and your family.

You may have heard recently how rocket fuel was found in some supplies illustrating how easy it is for contamination to occur and with many municipals changing over to chloramine to disinfect our water, lead levels look set to rise.

Chloramine is a mixture of chlorine and ammonia and has been proven to leach lead from the pipes and fittings.

To ensure you have a plentiful supply of the purest, safest and best tasting water, selecting the most effective household water filter will probably be one of the best investments you could make for your family's health.

Visit my website today if you would like to learn more about the types of household water filter that I personally recommend and use.

You Need A Water Ionizer And Your Pool Does Too

A water ionizer is a simple, safe and cost-effective tool for purifying treating water. From swimming pool water, indoor and outdoor water features to fish ponds and hot tubs, water ionizers provide crystal clear, fresh sparkling water without the need to use any harsh chemicals.

A water ionizer is used to enhance or maintain high water quality by the electrolysis of pure copper or copper and silver alloys. Water ionizers are widely deployed in swimming pools, spas, jacuzzis, fish ponds or water features to remove algae and bacteria and leave pure, odorless, crystal-clear water.

A WATER

Aside from use in water ionizers, copper and silver have been recognized and used for their water purification qualities for centuries. The ancient Egyptians and Romans used copper vessels to store and transport water, and many of NASA's manned missions make use of a water ionizer to sterilize the drinking water on their spacecraft.

Copper's is a powerful algaecide and silver has an equally effective ability to kill bacteria. Because of this, these metals make an excellent choice for building a cost-effective water sanitizer.

Whilst a functioning water ionizer generates soluble copper and silver ions as part of the water chemistry, the levels of copper and silver in the water do not pose any health risks. Water ionizers used to treat drinking water for livestock or pond water for fish have never resulted in any adverse effects on those creatures. Indeed, ionized swimming pool water can be used on the garden or consumed by humans without any side effects whatsoever.

Although a water ionizer will easily produce pure, fresh, clear water without much difficulty, they are not a "set and forget" solution.

For a water ionizer to be effective, there are some important caveats:

First, in common with alternative methods of treating swimming pool water the effectiveness of water ionization will depend on close attention to the water's basic chemistry. The levels of Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), the Total Alkalinity (TA), the temperature and pH of the water all play important roles.

Second, the system should have an effective and well-maintained pumping system. The effectiveness of any water ionizer will be proportional to the effectiveness of its pumping system.

Third, water chemistry must be regularly observed an maintained. Water is a living, breathing thing and must be monitored and adjusted as required. This is not a particularly laborious task. For example, private pools need only be tested weekly.

With many people now reluctant to use complex chemical cocktails to treat their swimming pool water or other water features and with the ever-growing needs to find greener solutions to everyday problems, water ionizers will continue to be the water treatment solution of choice in future years.

If you're considering a water ionizer in your swimming pool, compare it to the other methods of water treatment available to you and ask yourself: If I wouldn't drink this water, why would I let my children swim in it?

A Tankless Water Heater Saves Energy

Today more than ever, it seems that most people want to do all that they can to conserve energy. Did you know that conventional water heating systems are sitting there and constantly heating the water whether you need hot water at that time or not? While this is nice when we want a hot bath, it is a huge waste of energy.

The alternatives are on-demand water heater systems. They provide as much hot water as you need when you need it, and best of all, it does this without the energy waste associated with conventional water heaters.

A WATER

So now that you know the benefits of going tankless, here are some other things you might want to know about them. First, there are two kinds of on-demand heaters. As you may expect, the most common model will supply enough hot water for an entire house. This is what most people use and is the most frequently recommended by plumbers. But there are also single point tankless water heaters that will supply water to a single fixture.

While tankless water heaters are very appealing, don't think that you can just rush out and buy one to replace your old energy inefficient model. Tankless water heaters usually require an electrician to connect the proper wiring to power the unit. You can't just plug them in and start using them. There are also gas models (natural of propane) which are even more highly energy-efficient than the electric models. If you should decide that a gas-powered heater is the way to go, you need to also provide a well ventilated location.

In addition to being environmentally friendly, by going tankless, you will be saving up to half on the water heating portion of your monthly utility bill and will enjoy the benefit of a device that will last several years longer, on average, than conventional heaters.

So, with all of these benefits, what are you waiting for?

Extreme Water-skiing, Like Behind a Bass Boat?

There are many things to consider when you are buying or selling a boat. Boating is a wonderful hobby and can bring many happy, thrill-filled days, but, they might also be unhappy ones if you end up purchasing the wrong boat. If you are a bass fisherman, you know how important a good bass boat is. If you are looking for a good jon boat, purchasing one in the winter is a good idea, but the selection can sometimes be limited. Use the Internet, as it is a fantastic resource for all types of boats. Whether it is a bass boat, inflatable dinghy, inflatable zodiac or even a bow rider.

Pickup a boat trader magazine and scan through it until you find a boat suitable for your purposes. Remember that taking the word of the seller that the motor is sound is not good enough. If you're purchasing a fishing boat, a motor of eight to 20 hp is a good rule of thumb. When starting any outboard, two or three good cranks on the rope should be enough to fire the motor. If you find a boat that you really want, ask the owner if you can bring it into a dealer and have them verify the mechanical soundness of the motor.

A WATER

It is important to decide what you are purchasing a boat for, fishing, rowing, paddling, power boating, or even a personal watercraft. If you are looking for a good stable craft, there is nothing like rigid inflatable boats for stability and buoyancy. Most of these types of craft will also take a small motor with the exception of kayaks and small inflatable boats. When purchasing a boat, remember that as soon as spring arrives many people will be looking for boats, and they will be harder to find and will be more expensive. Doing your homework and finding one now makes it a great time to purchase your boat.

How to Fix a PVC Pipe With Water Gushing Out

Down here in Florida, and I guess this would be true for other places in the south, where it never gets cold enough, long enough to freeze water pipes, a very unusual practice takes place. At least it's unusual to me, because I grew up in Michigan, where all pipes that have any kind of water in them must be buried under the frost line, and that is 4'6" where I'm from, deeper if you go further north.

The unusual practice that I speak of is, having the feed for lawn sprinkler systems exposed above the ground. Let me explain, the feed for this is usually a 1" PVC pipe that rises about 2' above the ground with a 90 degree elbow, then a short piece of PVC with a threaded coupling, this threaded coupling goes into a 1" brass ball valve, next there are back to back 1" cast iron backflow preventer's with strainers, then back into a 1" brass ball valve another short piece of PVC a 90 degree elbow and finally back in to the ground where it will usually go to the garage to a water management timer and from there it feeds the sprinkler system.

A WATER

Now think about this for a moment. We have these two 1" PVC pipes sticking up from the ground holding up about 30 pounds of cast iron and brass components. I don't know who the genius is that thought of this, but it seems to be the standard for these systems here. The first house I lived in when I moved down here, this set up was right in the middle of the backyard. Pretty easy to spot when mowing the lawn, but it looked pretty ugly as well. The next house I moved to, it was tucked away in the back corner of the yard, out of the way behind the shed.

In the spring time down here we get a lot of rain and vegetation grows very fast, my weed wacker was broke and it had been a week or so since I had trimmed the yard. So I'm out there cutting the lawn on my riding lawn mower, which I had just bought a couple of months ago, because it is too damn hot and humid to be trying to push mow anything down here, and I was making my first pass around the backyard. as I passed behind the shed I knew that the sprinkler pipe was in this area but couldn't see it because the vegetation had grown up and hid it from my sight. I thought that I had given plenty of room and went right by. I don't think I moved ten feet when I could feel water landing on my back. I knew immediately what I had done. I pulled the tractor up another twenty feet, so it wouldn't get soaked and shut it off.

When I turned around I almost couldn't believe my eyes, water was shooting up into the air 15-20 feet. The first thing I thought of was to shut one of the ball valves, which was a great idea except for the fact that the pipe was broke before the valves and they were lying on the ground. At first the water felt kinda cold but after a couple minutes I was getting pretty used to it. I was really amazed at the water pressure coming out of that pipe. Being a pipe fitter I looked in my stuff to see if I had anything to cap this geyser off with, but I work on steel pipe and couldn't find anything. so I ran up to the hardware store and purchased a 1' PVC cap and some PVC primer and glue.

So the first thing that I wanted to do was to square off the end of the pipe that had been broken. I got out my 1/2" x 1-1/2" pipe cutter and cut it off about a foot above the ground. I then filed the end of the pipe so the cap would slip on to it nice and easy. Now keep in mind that the whole time that I'm doing this I am getting a steady stream of water dumped on my head, because it's shooting straight up in the air and coming right down on me. Not only that, there is now about 4 inches of water built up on the ground.

Alright, my pipe is cut an cleaned, so I put the primer on the pipe and then in the cap an then the glue on both. I then force the cap down onto the pipe and hold it with my hand in my crotch and applying all my weight on it. The water stops squirting out and I hold this position for about a minute, till my hand just couldn't take it anymore. I slowly start to take my weight off of the cap and then move away, thinking whew, glad thats over. I took maybe two steps backward and poof, the cap pops off and flies about 30 feet into the air and water is gushing everywhere again. Just about this time my wife comes out and says "maybe we should call a plumber". HAHA very funny.

After I found the cap, I saw that it had only gone onto the pipe about a quarter inch. Maybe the water was messing with the glue. so I cleaned everything back up and had her hold the other pipe, the one that had broken with the 90 on it, so it would shoot the water away from me and the pipe so the glue wouldn't get wet. At least I'm not the only one getting wet now. I reprimered and glued the pipe and cap. Once again I tried to force that cap back onto the pipe, but the pressure was just too strong and I just couldn't get it to stay. I again heard that little voice "maybe you should call a plumber". I am not paying someone an hour to fix this when I know I can do it myself. Just then, it hits me, and I think to myself you idiot, you sure wouldn't fix this, like this at work.

So I head back up to the hardware store make my purchase and hurry home. By this time there is probably 6 inches of water on the ground and my wife says do you need my help? Nope I got it. I clean the pipe off one last time and apply the primer and glue to the pipe and the PVC ball valve I had just purchased from the hardware store. with the valve in the open position I slip it onto the pipe and make a quarter turn and hold it in place for about a minute. When I'm sure the glue has set I simply closed the valve and my nightmare was over. I purchased a ten foot piece of PVC pipe, three 90s, one straight slip coupling and a couple threaded couplings. It only took about a half an hour to completely rebuild the whole thing, and needless to say I don't let the weeds grow up that high back there anymore.

I hope that this story has helped you. I know that I could have just told you from the beginning what to do, but I think you'll remember it better this way.

Vitamin Water - A Health Drink That Enhances the Benefits of Drinking Water or Silly Sales Gimmick?

Many people drink vitamin water and believe they are consuming a health drink, but that's like believing cotton candy is good, fat free food. Let's look at the small print on a bottle of vitamin water. The flavor we'll investigate for this article is kiwi-strawberry, which the label suggests will improve your "focus".

The first thing we notice about the ingredients is that there is not one mention of kiwi or strawberry, only "natural flavor", which could be anything from sugar to MSG. In fact, on a bottle of supposed kiwi-strawberry "nutrient enhanced water beverage" the label states that this health drink contains less than 1% fruit juice. What is really in this vitamin water and is it a health drink? Upon closer inspection we see that it is really a bottle filled with distilled, de-ionized water, sugar, isolated vitamins and minerals.

A WATER

One nutrition fact to note on the label of the vitamin water is that each bottle contains 2.5 servings. This is where the amount of sugar can be deceiving because the label reveals only 13g of sugar, but that's per serving. Multiply 13g times 2.5 servings and you've got a whopping 32.5 grams of sugar in each bottle of vitamin water, that's more than most sodas. You see, the first ingredient listed on the label, after the dead, de-mineralized water, is crystalline fructose, which might best be described as liquid cotton candy. That's what this bottle of pink vitamin water tasted like-liquid cotton candy, only with less flavor and more of a chemical aftertaste. I could only handle a few sips before beginning to clearly "focus" on how very bad this product is, and how sneaky the manufacturer is to make it look like a health drink.

Now, let's take a good look at the "vitamins" that are in this "nutrient enhanced beverage" of kiwi-strawberry vitamin water. According to the label, each serving contains 10% of your daily requirements for Vitamins A, B3, B6, B12, and B5 and a hefty 40% of your daily allowance of Vitamin C. The problem is that these "vitamins" are not attached to any whole food like strawberries or kiwis.

Remember, those whole foods were missing from the ingredients. Therefore, the live enzymes needed to help your body absorb the vitamins into your cells are not there. It is a nutrition fact that whole foods like fruits and vegetables contain live enzymes, which act as catalysts for vitamins and minerals to work in your cells. Without those whole food properties, isolated vitamins are not easily absorbed by the body and are more than likely eliminated in the toilet. So, how many of those vitamins in the vitamin water are actually being put into use by the body? Probably about as many as you could get from eating cotton candy.

If you really want good tasting health drink formulas that truly enhance the benefits of drinking water, then you need to search the Internet. There are some excellent all natural health drink formulas that contain live enzymes, real whole food vitamins, and more nutrients than you could ever get from a case of vitamin water, but you won't find those superior health drink products at the convenience store. You have to look past the sales gimmicks, read labels carefully, learn about live enzymes, whole foods, and how the body absorbs nutrients. You can find all of this information on the net. If you are serious about your health and fitness and want something more than a gimmick, search the web. Look for nutrition facts about whole foods, all natural foods and health drink products to truly enhance the benefits of drinking water, or anything else you are putting in your body.

Electronic Water Softeners

Well if you are surprised with the popularity of electric water softeners you don't need to be as they are gaining more and more popularity with every passing day thanks to the advantages they provide to their consumers. It is the use of technology that has made them more popular and preferable as compared to traditional salt based water softeners. The use of electromagnetic waves instead of salts allows them to perform their work amazingly and accurately. Also these are the devices that don't require maintenance and you will not have to bear continuous salt which is something for sure to release a lot of pressure from your pocket.

They are the type of water softeners that usually comes with a warranty of 5 to 20 years and does not require as much maintenance as you need to give to other traditional softeners. All you need to do is to get them installed and they are all set to operate.

A WATER SOFTENER

There are also many magnetic type softeners which are available in the market today. What makes them so popular is their ability of being flow independent. With magnetic type softeners you needed to make sure that the water lines are refitted and the flow of the water is slow enough just to make sure that the ions are regularly mixed up.

This however is not the case with the electric type water softeners. They only get installed at one particular portion of the pipe which ensures that you will not have to maintain or refit your water pipe lines. This procedure is a lot more less costly compared to their magnetic counterparts.

Technology has really advanced as there are now also electric water softeners that are available in the market which are even programmed to send varying electromagnetic pulses, which play an important role to soften the existing balance in your water pipes.

They are programmed to work such as they will travel through your pipes and will balance the amount of precipitates that needs to be there in your water. They indeed make sure you get a great and a whole lot more efficient water flow in your whole water pipe system.

You may hesitate to get them installed because of the fear that they might effect other electromagnetic appliances in your home but don't worry they don't do so as they only operate in a very limited and specified range just to ensure this doesn't happen.

Can It Be Possible To Adapt Your Vehicle To Be A Water Powered Car? Hydrogen Cars!

Fact or fiction- Is the water powered car a reality? Can we really drive water powered cars today?

If you look closely at water powered car technology, the potential exists that it may end up costing even more than if using the usual fuel for powering vehicles. Therefore, the method recommended for a water powered car which will save you fuel costs is to make a low-cost water powered car attachment, thereby saving you huge costs you would have spent using only gas.

A WATER

What this involves is a kit to adapt to your motor to give you Hydrogen-On-Demand when required.

Understand that this is not to indicate you should build a water powered car from the ground up that will operate on water and gas. Not at all. Instead, this means building simple mechanisms that will allow a vehicle engine to operate on water as well as gasoline. Hence, the water powered car phrase. There are no significant changes to make to your vehicle. The technology will work with almost any car or truck.

In simple words, this technology requires putting together home-made devices that utilise current out of your car's battery to divide water into a gas called HHO (2 Hydrogen + 1 Oxygen). HHO, also known as Brown's Gas or Hydroxy, combusts beautifully and by so doing provides TONS of energy.

Plus the most remarkable benefit is that HHO gas is even much more powerful than gasoline. In most instances 3 times more powerful.

This can result in huge savings in gas costs for your driving habits. This may save you savings of as much as 7.40 per year, depending on your driving habits. If there are two, three or four drivers in the family, this amount increments dramatically. And suppose you have a fleet of 50 drivers in your company? This could increase your savings even more.

We are not suggesting you will be able to run your vehicle completely on water....yet. Naturally, there is information available in regards to running an engine completely on water but I don't recommend them because they are not only complicated but costly and completely unpredictable.

How To Operate Home Water Softeners

Home water softeners are now standard home appliances throughout Ireland and other nations with hard water. Since it is a common home appliance, it will be to your advantage to know how to operate one. This saves you the trouble of calling in a pro to help you use or trouble shoot your softening system.

Most home softening systems follow similar operations and installations with just a few differences. Generally, all softeners will have compartment where you place the salt/sodium or potassium. They also have a brine tank, resin tank, a main valve, and a bypass valve.

A WATER SOFTENER

The main valve distributes softened water throughout your plumbing system, and a bypass valve is used when you do maintenance work so you do not have to shut off the water in your home. The brine tank is where you place water to be softened. Softening systems also have a control panel.

To start using home water softeners, you will need to fill the brine tank with water. The amount of water will depend on the size of your softening appliance. Check the manual for the recommended water level. If you've lost the printed manual, you can go online to search for the online version from the retailer's website.

Now, decide if you will use sodium or potassium to soften your water. Sodium is more common and less expensive than potassium. But people with heart problems kidney disease and high blood pressure are recommended to use potassium to soften their water. Too much sodium or salt is bad for people with heart and kidney disease.

If you decide to use potassium instead of salt, be careful about putting too much. Just pour in one bag of potassium in your softening system. Putting too much potassium can actually do the opposite and make your water harder, forming a bridge over the water that interrupts the softening process. If this happens, get a stick to break the bridge in the machine.

The next step is to go to the control panel and set the date and time. You should also set the correct hardness level of your water to make the machine work more efficiently. If you do not know your water's hardness level, you can get a test kit at a hardware store and test your water yourself. If your water has a lot of iron in it, raise the hardness level by 5 for every 1ppm.

You can also set the recharge time automatically. Set your home water softeners to recharge in the middle of the night when everyone is asleep and unlikely to use water. To recharge properly, the unit needs a specific amount of time to recharge without anyone using the hot water.

Softeners that work automatically will save you the trouble of manually recharging your appliance every now and then. Make sure that your valves are open and that sufficient water flows to the tank. If trouble persists, call your retailer or manufacturer to take a look.
